What’s In a Name? We Got Ourselves a New One!

Welcome to the shiny new website for the Alternate and Historical Fiction Track at Dragon Con!

What’s that? You’ve never heard of this so-called Alternate and Historical Fiction Track? Maybe you’ve been going to Dragon Con for years, but it’s just not ringing a bell? Well, funny you should mention that…

The Alternate and Historical Fiction Track is the new name for what was formerly the Alternate History Track, which has been a staple of fun, learning and costuming at DragonCon for years. But our programming has grown a lot in a short amount of time, and we needed our track name to reflect that although we still cover plenty of alternate history media and content, we’re now also so much more.

Here’s our official “About Us” description, which will tell you everything you can expect from our track this year:

The Alternate and Historical Fiction Track is the home for movies, TV shows, musicals, books and other media about true history, could-have-been history, never-was history and the stories that jump between. We’ll mix together time periods and time travel for all fans of historical fiction, alternate histories and every flavor of steampunk.

Our fan panels feature discussions of historical favorites like Vikings, The Crown and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, time-traveling pieces like Timeless, Travelers and Outlander, and even shows that look at events that never happened like the Man in the High Castle.

We’ll have panels exploring all kinds of subjects of interest to the history and historical fiction buff, including the history of spies, Victorian death customs, pirates in popular media, forgotten women of history, and many more. Our costuming series will focus on creating a perfect period look from hair to accessories.

We’re excited to host another year of singalongs to popular musicals, including Hamiltunes and The Greatest Showman. And we’ll continue to enjoy our favorite events including the Annual Dragon Con Tea Duel, Splendid Teapot Races, the Temporal Empress’ Ballroom Dance, and the Yesteryear Lagoon Pool Party.

Finally, we’ll dance away the last night of the Con with the Mechanical Masquerade: Revolution! This year, our annual track party is revolution-themed as “A Story of Tonight” and we encourage you all to wear your best military, resistance fighter, or dystopian garb from any era as a variety mix of spectacular DJs and dancers keep us entertained. Our track truly has something for almost everybody!

Whew! As you can tell, we’re pretty excited about what’s in store for everyone from our track at Dragon Con 2019. So excited that we even got a brand new logo to go with our new website:

We’re always looking to get to know people who are just as excited as we are about what we’re doing, so be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We also invite you to consider getting involved with the track. We’ll be posting frequent updates about the AHF Track’s upcoming programming, panels, special guests, workshops, parties, and panelist calls every week.

Dragon Con 2019 will be here before you know it – and we at the newly minted Alternate & Historical Fiction Track sincerely look forward to seeing you there!
